IND vs WI 2026: Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma find a hack to watch first ODI from Japan

Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma were not about to miss India's first ODI against West Indies, even from thousands of kilometres away. The two cricketers are stationed in Nagoya, Japan, as part of India's squad for the Asian Games 2026 cricket tournament, and they found their own workaround to follow the action back home.

The duo were seen interacting and sharing their perspective in an Instagram story during the live match on Sunday, September 27. The first ODI between India and the West Indies is being played at Thiruvananthapuram, and both players were keen to see how their team performed despite the time zone difference and the distance involved.

What happened in the first ODI?

At the time of writing, the first innings had come to an end with the visiting side scoring 295 for the loss of seven wickets at the Greenfield International Stadium. The Caribbean team started brilliantly, as the openers John Campbell and Justin Greaves staged a century stand for the first wicket. Greaves even got to his maiden ODI century, scoring 101 off just 108. Amir Jangoo's half-century towards the fag end of the innings also helped the team's cause.

For the Indian team, it was Kuldeep Yadav who showed his class in the series opener, bowling an excellent spell to cause a disruption in the Caribbean middle order. Kuldeep gave India their first breakthrough, with Campbell's dismissal. He picked three more to finish with an awe-inspiring spell of ten overs, where he conceded just 40 runs and delivered at an economy rate of 4.00. His four-wicket haul also included a maiden over.

Speaking of Ishan and Abhishek, off the field, the pair were spotted together at a restaurant in Tokyo ahead of the Asian Games, with a photo of that outing going viral on social media. Heading into the tournament, Kishan held the ICC T20I batting world No. 1 ranking with 904 points, while Abhishek sat just 11 points behind at No. 2 with 893 points.

Abhishek had been in strong form before travelling to Japan, scoring 82, 39 and 108 across India's 3-0 T20I series whitewash against Afghanistan at New Delhi, including a century in the final match. India's Asian Games quarter-final against the Afghans is scheduled for September 28 in Nagoya, which will be the next assignment for both players.
