Team India takes bullet train ride to reach Nagoya for Asian Games 2026

Team India arrived in Nagoya on Saturday, September 26, travelling by bullet train from Tokyo ahead of the Asian Games 2026. The squad boarded the Nozomi Shinkansen service, one of Japan's fastest train services operating on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, to cover the journey between the two cities.

The official Instagram account of the Indian cricket team shared a post capturing the moment, with members of the squad seen enjoying the journey.

"Tokyo ➡️ Nagoya at bullet speed 🚄 Good vibes only as #TeamIndia have arrived for the #AsianGames 2026 🙌," the post's caption read.

India's quarter-final fixture against Afghanistan

The Indian team had previously considered accommodation options in Tokyo and Osaka, both of which were approximately one and a half hours away from Nagoya by bullet train, confirming the Shinkansen route as a pre-planned travel arrangement for the squad.

India are scheduled to face Afghanistan in the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket quarter-final on Monday, September 28, with the match set to begin at 10:30 am IST. The Shreyas Iyer-led side enters the tournament as a seeded team, having been placed directly into the quarter-finals alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The men's cricket tournament at the Asian Games 2026 runs from September 24 to October 3 and features 10 teams. Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal were placed in Group A, while Hong Kong China, Malaysia and Oman formed Group B. The top two teams from each group advanced to the quarter-finals to join the four seeded nations.

Cricket is making its fourth appearance at the Asian Games, having previously featured at Guangzhou 2010, Incheon 2014 and Hangzhou 2023. The 2026 Asian Games are being held across Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026.

Earlier in the same Asian Games cycle, the Indian women's cricket team won the gold medal on September 22 after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. India posted 216/3 in 20 overs, the highest team total in women's cricket at the Asian Games, before bowling Sri Lanka out for 69 in 15.4 overs.
